TL;DR: Yes. Yes, he was. He sued his parents for listing him as a dependent on their tax returns. And yes, he has always been a litigious asshole.
The first case of which I can find a record was filed on May 10th, 2010. He sued Mid-States Promotions, a wrestling promoter, for disability discrimination, alleging that in January 2010 the owner, Jason Jones, had discriminated against him in contravention of the Americans with Disabilities Act, when he “upheld his decision to refuse to consider for employment despite his original reason being illegal.” The relief sought was to “reimburse the lost profits I have suffered due to loss of reputation in the wrestling business.” According to the docket he had filed this on 13 April 2010 with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which rejected it as not timely, as he had waited more than 90 days to file. This earlier notice put the date of discrimination as January 2009, shortly after Stebbins’ 21st birthday. The EEOC complaint alleges:
I paid for and participated in a training program to become a Professional Wrestling Manager from June 2008 to January 2009. In January of 2009, the owner sent an e-mail to me insinuating that he did not want me to continue to participate in the training program.
Classic Stebbins! There is no possible good-faith reason why someone might not choose to be around him. As usual, Stebbins requested that all costs be borne by others – service by US Marshals, for example, and appointment of a court-funded expert. The case was settled on 23 Feb, 2011. The terms of the settlement were entered on the record but are not in the public docket. It is fair to say the settlement was probably for less than the $306 million that Stebbins was asking for. My speculation is that they gave him his money back, to shut him up.
So: aged 21, and before he stabbed his own father because the broadband wasn’t fast enough, he was already enough of an asshole to get thrown off a paid-for course, deluded enough to assert that this could only possibly be due to his disability (which, in every other circumstance, has always meant his prolific rudeness and uncontrolled temper), and entitled enough to believe that the appropriate response was to give him a hundred times the average lifetime income of an American with a graduate degree – something he does not have (he was ejected from his bachelor’s degree course for the same behavior).
